Ranger South Provides Fast, Smooth Repaving On
Route To Miami Airport

The last thing motorists
needed on the busy eight-lane SR-836/Dolphin Expressway in South
Florida were lane closures that dragged on and on during
resurfacing.
A short production schedule was critical, as the limited access
highway is one of the routes feeding Miami International Airport
just to the north. So when Ranger
South won the contract to rehabilitate a 1.5-mile section of the
roadway, getting it done within 90 days was written right into
the terms.
Ranger crews were up to the task, milling and repaving the
mainline asphalt pavement from NW 42nd Avenue (North LeJeune
Road) to SW 27th Avenue, including ramps, all within the
allotted time frame.
The $3.7 million project was the first that Ranger has performed
for the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), which oversees
five South Florida limited access highways.
Not only was the work
done quickly, it was done well. Ranger paved the entire
eight-lane section — structural and friction courses — with zero
ride deficiencies, earning compliments from MDX for project
smoothness and timeliness of completion.

Ranger has a number of
major road projects underway in South Florida.
In Miami-Dade County, the South Division is making $6 million in
improvements on the north end of NW 72nd Avenue. Crews are
rebuilding the intersection at South River Drive and adding a
bridge to extend the roadway across the Okeechobee Canal, adding
a connector between the cities of Hialeah and Medley. Project
completion is scheduled for mid-2010.
The division is also improving a three-mile section of SR-845/Powerline
Road, milling and resurfacing all lanes from the Broward County
line north to Glades Road in Palm Beach County. The FDOT
contract, valued at $11.9 million, includes bridge
rehabilitation, drainage work, signalization, striping and more.
Crews recently completed another project on Powerline Road,
reconstruction of a two-mile section in Broward County under a
$5.1 million state contract.
